Reload Source Manual

1.1

Another kickass manReload Source is a script that lets you reload footage directly from the timeline without having to find or reveal it in the project panel.ual from ESC...

Installing Reload Source

reloadsource.jsxbin must be placed in the Plug-ins directory in the After Effects folder. That folder will be named "Adobe After Effects Effects [version]" which has been replaced with "AE" below.

macOS

For macOS, you'll use the .plugin file.

/Applications/AE/Plug-ins

Windows

For Windows, you'll use the .aex file.

\Program Files\AE\Support Files\Plug-ins

If After Effects was running when you installed the plugin, you’ll need to restart it.

Launching Reload Source

When properly installed, you will find reloadsource.jsxbin under the Effects > menu in After Effects.

Interface

There is no interface for Reload Source as it's a single-function script. You run it and it reloads the selected layer(s) in your timeline.

KBar Compatibility

Reload Source is compatible with KBar v2.0 and later.

Create a new script button and select the reloadsource.jsxbin script file. You can choose your own icon or use the included SVG icon.

After Effects Shortcut Compatibility

If you don't have KBar, you can assign Reload Source to a keyboard shortcut in After Effects' Keyboard Shortcuts Editor. You can assign the shortcuts by twirling open to Application > File > Scripts. It is recommended that you rename the file to something like 01_reloadsource.jsxbin to make sure it appears at the top of the list. After Effects only shows the top 20 or so scripts in the menu and the list may also change if you add new scripts to the folder. Since the shortcuts are assigned by position in that menu rather than to the name of the script itself, if that order changes, your shortcut will trigger a new script.
