Shimmer is built for spectral color design that goes well past the usual red/green/blue split. Instead of three fixed channels, you define the dispersion with a gradient — every color stop becomes its own displaced copy of the image, so the same effect gives you subtle lens fringing, hard anaglyph splits, or a full prism refraction. A custom Fringe Selection UI lets you isolate exactly what's allowed to fringe by luminance, color channel, saturation, hue, or alpha, so the effect reacts to the image instead of coating it.
Under the hood, Shimmer outputs the dispersion itself rather than a smeared copy, so flat areas cancel exactly and only edges fringe — the way real glass behaves, at any width. Add a lens warp field that bends the split from pincushion through fisheye, a visual falloff curve for the spread, film grain, and a Time Offset that pulls each copy from a different frame for temporal color ghosting, and it becomes a fast way to build dispersion that feels art-directed instead of generic.
